Old Chicago style Italian beef sandwiches- reminds me of my childhood. Dad would have loved to eat here! Great food.

Ok. Expensive $10 for a meatball sub that was so-so. 24th and meatballs is much better.

My favorite place I come from Utah just for a sandwhich.

My go to spot when I'm craving a Italian beef. Great fries. The hotdogs are just ok though and not as authentic as I would prefer.

Only place in Portland that can even come close to Real Chicago Beef!! Fries are delish, & family style customer service! Must try!

Ya gotta give the owner some serious credit for always keeping it legit. He’s sometimes a grouch, but I’ll endure his rantings, just so I can enjoy the authentic Chicago style food and the attention to details and quality. The staff is amazing and expeditious. If you want or crave the “real-deal” Chicago experience, you gotta try Michael’s. PS: this guy makes almost everything on the menu from scratch. My hats off to one of the best places I’ve ever been to, and the hard working owner...!

I only tried the eggplant parmesan sandwich. It was OK. The sauce they use is quite tasty and the bread was good. There was actually very little eggplant and what there was came away from the breading, which seemed a bit thick for how little eggplant there was.

Not as much flavor as Chicago joints. Not really friendly in my opinion. How you treat a customer can make all the difference

Love this place. Felt like Chicago and the beefs were perfect. I'd go there soon as this neighborhood is experiencing a building boom and.. who knows if a gem like Michael's will be able to stick around.

I had the spicy sausage with peppers in this classic Portland spot. Very delicious

This place is like every place back where I grew up in St Louis. It hasn't been updated inside (maybe ever) and is the opposite of a trendy spot. It is great! The food isn't jazzed up or some hybrid of Italian and something else. It's exactly what it ought to be. They have good Italian beef sandwiches with crispy but not burned fries and they charge for using a debit card. The clientele when I went was grandparents and construction workers and a couple older guys on lunch. My husband and I (both early 30s) were the only couple our age and that doesn't bother me one bit. If you want a good Italian sandwich, no frills, come here!

Basic food, not bad. Sausage was good. Service wasn't great, as they seemed mad that I even came in.

Fantastic Chicago-style Italian beef. The sausages are good, the giardiniera an Italian beef are spot on! I'll definitely be going back for delicious regular, wet or fully dipped Italian Beef sandwiches. The combo, wet with hot peppers and a splash or mustard was fantastically amazing. Six stars if you ask me, I'd highly recommend this to anybody that wants an authentic Italian beef sandwich.

Always delicious! Been coming here for 20 years now. The chili dog is my favorite.

Kind of disappointing. I haven't been here in about 20 years and their ATM/debit card reader was down. I went all the way across town for one of the delicious sandwiches I remember from my twenties.

I absolutely love this place. Great atmosphere, great people fabulous service. The Chicago combo is my favorite with shoestring fries and don't forget to try the homemade cookies. This place is a true Portland institution.

For as long as I've live in Portland it still amazes me how many places I haven't tried. Portland the city of foodies. The inside reminds me of a diner & lounge. Friendly staff.The food was delicious, and came quick. We went during lunch on a weekday and it was pretty busy. They have outdoor seating for those sunny days. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich my boyfriend got the infamous Chicago style hot Italian beef sandwich. They also offer a dinner menu with pasta choices.

Incredible food! Literally have dreams about eating a wet Beef sandwich with hot peppers and sauteed and raw onions. Fries are perfect and crispy! Awesome spot!
